People on the university campus in Charlottesville, Virginia, were told to take cover since the shooter was still at large. The incident also left two others injured.
Authorities said that a student shooter was still at larger after he opened fire at a parking garage on the University of Virginia campus late on Sunday night, resulting in the deaths of three persons and injuries to two more. The administration of the university instructed everyone on the Charlottesville campus to take cover in their current locations.
Shots were reportedly fired at a garage on Culbreth Road on Sunday night, according to the university’s office of emergency management. The shooter was identified as Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. by UVA police, and the university president confirmed in an email to students that he was a student there.
Mr. Jones was “armed and dangerous,” according to the warning issued by the campus police. They said that a number of different law enforcement organizations were assisting with the search for Mr. Jones, and that the Virginia State police had deployed aircraft as part of the endeavor.
Jim Ryan, the president of the institution, announced the cancellation of classes for the next day in an email that was sent to the campus early on Monday morning.
I regret to inform you that three people have lost their lives and two others have been wounded and are seeking medical attention as a consequence of the incident,” Mr. Ryan wrote. We are in continuous communication with the victims’ loved ones and will provide further information as soon as possible.
According to the report, Mr. Jones was last seen in a black SUV, wearing a burgundy jacket, blue trousers, and red shoes. They suggested that individuals who have loved ones on campus contact an emergency hotline for updates on the situation.
Students were urged to “please, please take the shelter in place directives seriously as the situation continues ongoing” in an email sent out by Dean of Students Robyn S. Hadley at 1:18 a.m.
Mr. Jones was listed on the university’s sports website as a former freshman player who did not participate in any games for the football team in 2018.
